Hi this issue is not specific to CuteFTP, I'm just looking for general help with a very strange FTP problem:

I am getting the following FTP errors since last Thursday, when attempting to browse *some* directories on my server (*some, not all*):

Response: 200 PORT command successful.
Command: LIST
Response: 150 Opening BINARY mode data connection for /bin/ls.
Response: 226 Transfer complete.
Error: Connection timed out
Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing

Factors to consider:

1) The problem suddenly started happening last Thursday. I was able to browse around to any folder on the server prior to last Thursday.

2) Server is a windows box.

3) It happens in both active and passive mode.

4) Tried connecting through a proxy but couldn't get it to work.

5) Issue occurs with random folders on the server. For example, I can get to /folder/sub/dir/ but then it errors when I try to open /folder/sub/dir/anotherdir.

6) There appears to be no rhyme or reason as to which folders suddenly error out. It's not as if it's only happening on folders with a ton of files. For example /folder/sub2/ I can't get to but that one only has a few files in it.

7) It happens using any and all development programs that I ftp into (examples coldfusion dev environment, pspad, windows explorer, zend studio have all been tested and all fail - on the same folders).

8) The issue has been found to occur on both a Linux box and on Windows XP systems. BUT here's the kicker - some Windows XP systems have been tested and do not have any problem.

9) I can connect to other sites just fine and browse around on the directories there.

I realize this is not a CuteFTP-specific issue however I am now at a loss and am looking for any suggestions that some experts might be able to offer. Thank you very much.

Assuming you added this FTP Site to your Site manager, right-click on it and select Properties. Click on the Type and change the "data connection type" to PASV. Currently you have it set on PORT and that could be causing the problem.

The problem could also be caused by a firewall running on your computer and/or router. You only pasted a piece of the connection log so it doesn't show much.
