CuteFTP Pro has a SFTP SSH2 connection to my server.  I need to download entire directory chains (each user account in "home" for example).

From time to time I get the warning that a "child transfer failed"   Here's an example:

STATUS:> Getting working directory...
STATUS:> Home directory: /root
STATUS:> Connected successfully.
STATUS:> Creating new local directory: "F:\ServerBackup\home\deldigit".
STATUS:> Getting listing for directory '/home/deldigit'...
STATUS:> Skipping link "www -> ".
STATUS:> Skipping link "access-logs -> ".

ERROR:> Child transfer failed.

In this case, I can see and list the the "www" directory and the "access-logs" directory with CuteFTP.  The permissions seem appropriate (reading is allowed).  Does anyone have an idea why one would get the "child transfer failed" warning and what one can do to remedy the failure?

There are too many variables that can cause that.  One of the most common is If you are transferring an entire folder of contents, and one file in that folder is bad or doesnt transfer properly, it will botch the entire job.  Id create a folder first and then maneuver within the two folders and select all the contents at once. At this point what ever transfers that is good will transfer and what ever is bad you can go back and re attempt the transfer of that item or see what could be causing that particular file to fault.

Another thing, If you are transferring a multitude of file types such as text, HTML, and or images, try switching the Transfer Type settings to Binary mode. This can be done within the Site Manager property settings for that specific connection. This is under the TYPE tab.
